I just can’t get enough of Buffy, and comics just won’t cut it. I would like to see season 8 made into half a season with special appearances from all the characters from the comic version. You just can’t compare the brilliance and direction of Whedon and his team. The visual experience is like no other. Maybe Buffy as a series should be resurrected, even if the “First” was beaten; the story lines, the jokes, the slang.. sniff. There could be the Zero or negative First. Maybe the First could drain all the slayers except Buffy and a couple of cool slayers, and become The Last.
Another option would be to make a book. A season in a series of short books or an extensive book portraying the equivalent of a whole season. After watching and rewatching all the series, I could take what I learned from the Buffyverse and make out the scenes and story of the book in rich detailed images.
Still, I believe that Whedon would take at least 3 years in other projects before considering a comeback for Buffy. So, what do you guys think? Anyone?
I wish some of Season 8 could make it to the screen, but I judging from what Whedon and some of the writers and actors have said in various interviews, I don’t think it will ever happen. I’m pretty happy with comics as a medium, I think it’s the form of print media that most resembles TV. I wish they would do a straight to DVD movie of Season 8, but again, I feel it’s a futile hope.
I’m hoping that with the popularity of comic book style films and TV shows… Hero’s is the first one that comes to mind… there may be a renewed interest in Buffy. There’s such a rich amount of lore and characters that span time they can tap into. Maybe it’s not even about characters we know, ala Fray.
Could be, but then again. I wouldn’t want anyone but Joss Whedon touching the Buffyverse. So when he’s ready, anyone can be ready to come into action… i guess. BTW, how cool would a Buffy game be on the Wii? They could make a game out of the 8th season, we could virtually stake vampires, make spells. Well, this is me dreaming. I should go back to sleep.
A Buffy game on Wii would be fab. I have found the Wii to be leaps and bounds more immersive than any other gaming system. That said though I really enjoyed the 2nd Buff game that came out. I played that one on Xbox.
I’m so ashamed of admitting this… I didn’t play Chaos Bleeds. I really liked the first game for the xbox though. There is a game from The Collective, called Harker. It’s about vampires, Dracula and close range fighting. They could use that game engine to make a Buffy game for the Wii. I believe Fox Interactive still has the rights to anything Buffy related on consoles.
I attended Comic Con this weekend in San Diego. The representation of Buffy comics was fairly weak. Dark Horse (of course) had Season 8, as well as Tales of the Vampires, etc. for sale in their booth. But you definitely had to be looking for them to find them. I found two booths with used Buffy comics for sale. And one booth selling some Buffy action figures. I think by and large the world of comics is male dominated, so that’s how I explain the lack of Buffy fanfare. Marti Noxen was at the convention, she was to take part in a panel on women in the sci fi genre, which would have been awesome. I was excited to hear her take on how BtVS changed sci fi and action roles for women. But her train was late, so she walked onto the stage as the panel was ending. That was a major let down.
Oh! And I was walking through the convention center, when a man dressed as Spike walked past me. Platinum hair, leather coat and all. I did double take. It made my day.
I agree about renewed interest...it will be a waiting game though, and it may be a few LONG years. I gotta say that the original movie has been a nail in the Buffy coffin since the beginning. That’s why people look at you all weird when you tell them you watch BTVS. It’s like you said you liked Sabrina the Teenage Witch or something. The movie was so LAME, that people expect it to be some lame ass teen cheese fest.
I think there is a huge following, bigger than anyone knows but mainstream tv is just not the place for Buffy. I think cable is the way to go. Then you can get all R rated, it’ll be like Buffy porn, well soft core atleast. I think the mainstream TV folk want their American Idol and other similar mindless bullshit. They don’t want to be challenged OR to think. I think Heroes is a fluke to be honest...don’t get me wrong, it deserves ratings and a following, but color me surprised it’s surviving mainstream America.
And Spike, it’s not childish, it is cool. I think I would get all girlish and excited if I saw anybody dressed up like the characters in the real world.
Series like Heroes and Smallville have special place in my fandom. Even though many people think Smallville has lost it… anyway, besides those two current series, I don’t like the general direction mainstream TV is taking. I have yet to see Jericoh and other more “occult” series, but that is my stand. We should get more directors and writers like Whedon and his gang.
i’ve heard vague rumours about joss starting a new show for fox? it’s exciting, but i’m worried that my expectations of him might be too high now. what have you guys heard?

Don’t be worried. Your expectations aren’t too high. Joss will deliver. I love this guy!
